Flippo Dibari

World Food Programme (WFP), Nutrition, School Meals and Social Protection Division

Grassroot experience. Filippo is Italian by nationality, a Food Engineer (Msc) by foundational training, with a dissertation conducted at the Burundi University, in Bujumbura. His education took him to work in the Amazon Jungle, for four years, as a volunteer, helping vulnerable communities to process high value chain fruits from sustainable agro-forestry systems. This experience led him to take assignments with INGOs, FAO and IFAD, in quite a few countries, globally, including Somalia.

Nutrition: passion and profession. However, given his passion for fighting malnutrition in all its forms, Filippo made a mid-career change and obtained a master’s degree in public health nutrition (MSc) at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (Univ. of London). After few years of work in emergency settings with INGOs and the University of London, his PhD in Nutrition Epidemiology, at the University College London, developed optimized specialized nutritious foods for Kenyan wasted adults with HIV and TB, MSF-supported, and in collaboration with WFP Kenyan suppliers.

Contribution to SDG2 / food systems. In WFP, Filippo has served its beneficiaries in Mozambique and in Ethiopia since 2013. In Ethiopia, he worked with the Government to make the national Social Protection program nutrition sensitive, while preventing and managing undernutrition, using digital vouchers.

Subsequently, from 2021 to 2026, he served WFP Country Offices across the Asian and the Pacific region, and Eastern Kenya, as Regional Nutrition Sr Advisor, from Bangkok and Nairobi. Since January 2026, Dr Dibari support the WFP Country Offices in the Middle East, Northern Africa and Eastern Europe, integrating nutrition across Emergency Preparedness, Social Protection, School Meals, and Climate/Resilience, based on evidence generation (randomized trials managed jointly with the Government), while engaging with regional International Financing Institutions (World Bank, Asean Development Bank, among few).

Private life. Filippo has three kids, adopted in Mozambique: one of them was a beneficiary of the wasting treatment programmes supported by WFP and UNICEF. Filippo loves discussing about plant-based diets, and their impact on climate, on human health, on human capital, and animal welfare. Filippo practices Zen meditation and enjoys free diving and running.
